The Importance of Building a Positive Legacy

If you wanted to plant a new tree, would you prefer to place it in a new empty field, or an older forest? In nature, you will see that young trees flourish better when surrounded by older trees. This is because the roots of the younger trees are able to follow the “pathways” created by older ones and deeply root themselves into the ground resulting in a strong foundation. This is also how legacy works.

Believe it or not, most people don’t think about building a legacy until it’s too late. Some people have the mindset of “Why should I care what happens when I am no longer here?”

If this is you, it is important to take “death” out of the equation. Starting to build a legacy now affects you and your family just as much as it will affect the next generation.

Legacies are about learning from the past, living in the present, and building for the future. When you begin to improve yourself, your finances, your emotional/mental health, and knowledge, you too reap the benefits of a better and more fulfilling life.

Imagine having everything you need. Imagine feeling safe, secure, and confident about where you are today and where you’ll be tomorrow. Imagine not having to worry about running out of money in the future. Doesn’t that feel great? Now imagine leaving this same blueprint for your family and future generations to come. They will inherit that same great feeling and have the guidance and mindset they need to live a fulfilling life as well.

Why is Building a Positive Legacy Important?

When you are building a legacy, it is important to know that it is more than just a last name or leaving behind property and money. Your legacy will consist of emotions and knowledge as well. This means without even knowing it, you are passing down your anxiety, depression, lack of knowledge, and more! This is why it is so important to make sure you are doing everything you can to build a positive legacy.

How You Can Start Building A Positive Legacy?

  1. Identify Where You are Now.
    • Take a moment to analyze your life. Where are you currently? Are you emotionally and financially stable? Do you know all you need to know about life, money, success and more?
    • If you continue to follow the path you’re on now, will you be happy with the legacy you leave behind?
    • If not, what areas do you need to work on? If yes, do you agree that there is always room for improvement?
  2. Identify what legacy means to you
    • How do you feel about legacies?
    • Are you happy with the legacies you’ve inherited?  If so, how can you continue to build on this?  If not, how can you improve this for future generations?
    • Are you willing to put in work every dayto improve all areas of your life?
  3. Create A Plan
    • Sometimes thinking about the future can evoke anxiety. It does not have to be this way. Creating a plan or life map can prevent you from wandering aimlessly throughout life. A solid plan will give you accountability, direction, and peace of mind.
  4. Work with a Legacy Coach.
    • Not to be confused with a life a coach, although a legacy coach can help you uncover your immediate and future needs to live a happy and fulfilling life, they also take that extra step by helping you plan for the next 100 years by:
      • Working with you to create a solid legacy plan.
      • Offering guidance along the way.
      • Holding you accountable.
  5. Always be Learning (ABL)
    • Finally, we can never know too much. Take time to read and learn new things to improve yourself.
